Hiking
There is a pleasant path going into idyllic the 'Frühlingstal' valley along the 'Angelbach' stream, which children will love. There is the option of finishing the walk where you started by doing a circuit, or of carrying on walking to the lake at Kaltern.
You can get back to Montiggl by the shuttle bus via Kaltern and Eppan. If you would like to take small children on your walk with you, we'll be happy to provide you with a pushchair with large wheels or a 'Salewa' child carrier.
Realising that there's often no room in holiday luggage for child carriers, we lend it to our guests free of charge on request. One pleasant walk is to start here and go past both Montiggl lakes to 'Wilder Mann Bühel' and then on to Girlan if you wish. This walk can be extended to Sigmundskron Castle, which features the 'MMM' (Messner Mountain Museum).
As our farm enjoys a very central location at the heart of South Tyrol, some of our guests use it as an ideal base for hiking all over South Tyrol. Excursions (involving the funicular railway) to the Mendel mountain ridge, rising above Kaltern am See, for great walks on the Penegal or Roen mountains are possible.
Trips to the high Ritten plateau and its Earth Pyramids, to Jenesien and its pretty larch forests, the Unterland area of South Tyrol or to Castelfeder or Maria Weissenstein may be done. Or there's the Meraner Land direction with the Gardens of Trautmannsdorf Castle, Schloss Tirol or Völlan and the 'Knottenkino'...
Or perhaps you fancy going in the other direction, to the practically unspoilt Sarntal valley or the episcopal town of Brixen.
You see the extent of the hiking options. We have put together a folder containing great walking tips. You'll find some excellent hiking books in our book corner in the common room, too.
